Nokia going into NFC in "big way"

Near field communication (NFC) is set to be included in Nokia mobile phones in "a big way", according to an Electricpig article published by the Mirror.

Nokia will "be bringing forward a lot of phones with embedded NFC", a source is reported to have said.

The NFC technology will give users the opportunity to use their phones to wirelessly pay for products by swiping their handset over a payment point.

Once an NFC connection is established between two devices it can also connect to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi services.

According to the Mirror, the phone giant, which has produced the Nokia N900 Black and Nokia N97 Black smartphones, will have NFC technology as a standard function by 2012.

Nokia already has one mobile phone with NFC technology in the shape of the 6216 Classic.

For security reasons, mobile phones with NFC usually have a smart chip built in to protect important personal details.
