O2 prices for Palm Pre unveiled

O2 has announced the pricing details for one of its most eagerly-anticipated, network-exclusive devices.

The carrier killed weeks of speculation over a release date for the upcoming Palm Pre smartphone this week, by unveiling a shelf date of October 16th.

Now, those looking to get their hands on the new WebOS-enabled gadget have been advised on what they can expect to pay for it.

The Palm Pre is to be made available free on O2 contracts of 18 and 24 months, with tariffs confirmed as being between £44.05 and £73.41. For this, users can expect unlimited web browsing using the operator's HSDPA service.

In addition, free surfing in hotspots across the UK from The Cloud and BT Openzone will be on offer.

Jon Rubinstein, chairman and chief executive officer of Palm, commented: "We look forward to launching Palm Pre with O2 so people in the UK can see firsthand how [the device] offers a new and better smartphone experience."

Other O2 exclusives include the Apple iPhone 3G, which boasts similar web connectivity options.

Is the price right?
