Research In Motion (RIM) has announced the launch of a new device that follows on from one of its previous successes.
The company explained that the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone will build on the popularity of its 9000 predecessor, but will offer improvements in multimedia and telecommunications facilities.
It added the new model will be equipped with 3G support, a 3.2-megapixel camera, 256 MB of internal Flash memory expandable to 32 GB with a microSD card, a 624 MHz internal processor and a 2.44-inch display.
In addition to the integrated media player, a 3.5 mm headphone jack will be included along with built-in GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity.
RIM's president and co-chief executive officer Mike Lazaridis said the Bold 9700 will offer "new, state-of-the-art features and a smaller, lighter and highly optimised design".
Vodafone has since unveiled its first tariff for the smartphone, a £35 monthly plan that includes 600 free minutes, unlimited texts and free web access to the BlackBerry and Vodafone internet service.
Would you trade in your old Bold for this upgrade?
