Google Android 'could soon take on iPhone'

HTC MagicMobile phones equipped with the Google Android system have the potential to take on the smartphone supremacy of the Apple iPhone, it has been suggested.

Commenting on the future of HTC's devices, a spokeswoman for Mobile Choice explained that the technology is moving forward at a pace that could soon eclipse its closest rivals.

Natasha Stokes, editor of the technology news and reviews resource, explained that O2's upcoming Palm Pre was a model she was interested in seeing for herself, but there are others in the pipeline that may be worth the wait.

"Personally, I think that with HTC's Android portfolio improving with each phone, their next Android smartphone could well be a serious contender to the iPhone," she said.

The first of the Google-powered devices from the manufacturer was the T Mobile-branded G1, later followed by the Magic - which is exclusive to Vodafone - and this was more recently superseded by the Hero.
