2008 'a great year for text messaging'
Posted: 28 January 2009
It has been advised that 2008 was a great year for text messaging (SMS) for both personal and professional users.
Clickatell, a company which offers a number of international SMS solutions, stated the last 12 months saw "phenomenal growth" in terms of how text messaging has been adopted.
It noted the cost effectiveness of such services meant it was not only consumers that were enjoying the benefits of SMS, adding businesses including CNN, Christie's, Shell and the NHS were now part of its customer base.
Pieter de Villiers, chief executive of Clickatell, said: "SMS is simply the most effective way to reach everyone."
"Everyone has a cell phone in their pocket, purse or backpack and they use it to connect, communicate and transact daily."
Following his goal in the 4-1 win over Bologna last week, David Beckham reportedly sent a text message to Fabio Capello's right-hand man Franco Baldini.
Baldini told Italian newspaper La Repubblica that the message read: "Did you see my goal?"
Would you rather call or text a friend?
