Mobile phones 'more equipped to handle TV'

Modern mobile phones are better equipped to handle the technology associated with portable television, it has been suggested.

According to a spokesman for Techwatch, a site which provides news and discussion regarding the digital market, such systems could be about to get more popular with consumers.

Brian Turner, executive editor of the site, explained said free-to-air analogue mobile TV may have suffered in the past, but the latest phones have platforms that have addressed the technical requirements of such content.

"The surge in features and apps for mobile devices is increasingly turning them into portable PCs. This means video features are increasingly integral to mobile usage," he said.

In a recent report from Telegent Systems and In-Stat, it was predicted mobile television access could grow by up to 600 per cent between now and 2013, with as many as 300 million people using devices to watch their favourite shows.
