Apple iPhone 3G S 'popular for many reasons'

Not everyone buys and Apple iPhone 3G S for its high-tech capabilities, one expert has advised.

In a recent post for the CCS Insight Blog, Robert Caunt recalls a recent incident where it was illustrated for him that many people simply want the device because it looks great.

He explained a lunch meeting with a friend and his father led to the conversation turning to mobile phones, at which point the elder of the relatives pulled out an iPhone.

Mr Caunt added that despite being a very intelligent man, the Apple user was unaware of how to connect the gadget to the internet, but this was not surprising as it appeals to many different types of consumer.

"They see it as a phone that works well and won't embarrass them if they pull it out at a cocktail party," he concluded. "I suspect I'll encounter many more people reaching into their pocket and being surprised at what their phone can do."

Apple announced in June that the one millionth iPhone 3G S had been sold.
