3 'hoping for Spotify deal'

3 Mobile is hoping to secure a distribution deal for Spotify, it has been claimed.

New Media Age reported this week the network is in talks with the internet music service and a range of options are being considered for the application to be included on handsets.

However, it is believed only premium subscribers of Spotify will be able to access it on their mobile phones but any kind of deal would be "valuable" to 3 Mobile, the publication relayed.

"Conversations are taking place and we're hopeful," explained a source reportedly close to the situation.

It was also said Spotify's submission for an Apple iPhone 3G app was rejected because it could "cannibalise" the iTunes service.

Meanwhile, earlier this week saw 3 Mobile unveil a gadget it plans to make available by Christmas this year.

The wireless modem sends a Wi-Fi signal out so customers of the network can connect their phone and other devices to it and use the internet anywhere.
