Skype iPhone application put to the test

One of the latest additions to the Apple iPhone 3G's online store could be great for those looking to save money on international calls.
Following the launch of the Skype application last month, Trusted Reviews has taken the opportunity to put the "eagerly awaited" software to the test in a new article.
The piece notes that although a number of similar offerings like Truphone have been around for some time, the size of the Skype user base means it is likely to be more popular.
In its iPhone incarnation, the site notes the application looks and acts more like it belongs on the Apple device - and is in fact "almost identical" to the gadget's dialler facility.
With voice calls currently limited to Wi-Fi, it is noted there are some limitations, but this may change in the future.
"This version is very useful when you want to make cheaper calls abroad and blends in beautifully in terms of design with the iPhone's own mobile calling features," the site notes.
However, it concludes it is "not the best version of Skype" that has made it to mobile phones.
Have you tried the new app yet?
