Opera use 'up by 12.1%'

The number of mobile phone users turning to the Opera Mini web browser has grown significantly of late, it has been noted.

According to figures from the company, which provides an alternative to software such as Internet Explorer and the Symbian S60 variant, over 23 million people used the system in March 2009.

This figure equates to a 12.1 per cent rise in comparison to the previous month and marks growth of 157 per cent year on year - which Opera claims is a "major jump".

It was also noted more than 8.6 billion pages were viewed with the software during the month, up by 17.4 per cent since February and 255 per cent since March 2008.

Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive of Opera, said: "As millions of people each month discover the web through Opera Mini, content providers have an incredible opportunity to seize competitive advantage in this new medium."
