Juniper predicts mobile apps growth
Posted: 30 April 2009
A new survey has predicted one particular area of the mobile phones market is set for significant levels of growth.
Juniper Research predicts direct and indirect revenues generated by mobile applications will boost the market to the tune of around $25 billion (£17 billion) by the year 2014.
Analysts say games in particular will continue to be popular and state the predictions will be backed by new developments in handset technology and store launches.
Other areas set to take a significant part of the mobile applications market share will be multimedia and entertainment.
Some of the most popular downloads available include Skype - the free voice over internet calling service that is compatible with the Apple iPhone 3G and a number of BlackBerry mobile phones.
The manufacturer behind the former recently announced that its own online store for such applications, the App Store, had reached the one billion downloads milestone.
