Consumers 'get fit with mobiles'

An industry expert has commented on the growth in popularity of smartphone-based fitness technology.
Following a survey from ABI Research that showed 1.2 million such downloads were made in 2009, in comparison to falling sales in dedicated sports hardware, a spokesman for gadgetsandgizmos.com said the reasoning was clear.
Richard Sharp, founder of the portal, explained the cost-effective nature of options like Nokia Sports Tracker and the level of convenience they provide through portability were a big part of their success.
"The average sports application costs a fraction of going out and buying a dedicated device and it can all be used from one device. This saves money and also means you only have to carry one gadget whilst exercising," he added.
Nokia also offers an N79 Active package that in addition to the handset itself, also features a Polar heart rate monitor and integrated software to help monitor exercise levels.
Do you use such technology frequently?
