Samsung SGH-a657 'tested Labrador-proof'

A new handset from Samsung has had its toughness tested against a range of threats by Mobile Burn's Ricky Cadden - including his dog.

In an article for the site this week he states the South Korean manufacturer has launched another handset that wants to be tough in the SGH-a657 and notes that it achieves this in some areas.

The candybar-style device is praised for having a "robust" set of features that include 3G support and built-in GPS - and although its dimensions are described as "slightly hefty" it is not too heavy to carry around comfortably.

Mr Cadden put the device through its paces against the elements and explained that although the phone's resistance to water was disappointing, it did manage to cope with a run in with his chocolate Labrador retriever Abilene.

"The phone passed the drop and game of fetch with no issues," he added, "but did not handle water well."

Cnet recently reviewed another of Samsung's rugged models - the B2700 Bound - and concluded it was ideal for outdoor types.

How tough does a phone have to be?
