Budget Samsung "a breath of fresh air"

A new review has called the latest entry-level Samsung phone "a breath of fresh air".

Franz Bicar states in a post on the Mobile Wire website the SGH-T119 - which was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show - bucks the trend for high-end, feature-packed device launches.

Samsung is praised for offering a handset that cuts out such extras, which are often not required by users - such as a camera. He adds the firm has not even included a basic VGA model in this particular release.

The candybar-style handset is therefore something of a "breath of fresh air", Mr Bicar notes, concluding: "It has its quirks but it offers a simple, easy-to-use design that should be accessible to cell phone newbies."

Samsung's SGH-T119 features a 1.6-inch screen as well as polyphonic ringtones, vibrate mode, an alarm clock, calendar and calculator.

However, for those who believe a good camera is an important aspect on a phone, the eight-megapixel Samsung Pixon may be more suitable.

Are Samsung right to release such a basic device?
