Next month will see the third mobile phone to boast Google's Android operating system launched in the UK.
Orange has announced the HTC Hero will follow devices like the Vodafone-exclusive HTC Magic and the T Mobile G1 into the market in early July.
It is claimed the new model will be available in a graphite finish and will be free on selected contracts - with one £39.15 tariff offering 1,200 any network minutes, as well as unlimited texts and web access.
The 3G gadget is equipped with a 3.2-inch screen, five-megapixel camera with auto-focus and has 512 MB of internal memory expandable to 16 GB when a suitable MicroSD is used.
Francois Mahieu, director of devices at the network, said: "We're really pleased to be launching our first Android handset in conjunction with HTC - the first of several Android devices you can expect from us this year."
The T Mobile G1 was the first Android phone to be launched in Britain.
