Nokia claims 'web and mobile rapidly converging'
Posted: 16 June 2009
Nokia has pointed to the merging of mobile and internet systems as key to the future of the sector.
Ahead of the European launch for its Nokia N97 device, the manufacturer said people across the whole world were now turning to the latest phones.
During a recent event in Singapore, a spokesman for the Finnish group said there were some interesting times ahead and suggested the firm could be well-positioned to take advantage of this.
Chris Carr, vice-president of Nokia sales in the south-east Asia Pacific region, said: "We are witnessing exciting developments in our industry driven by the rapid convergence of the internet and mobile.
"This is not only happening in advanced markets but for everyone," he explained.
Nokia's upcoming N97 device was unveiled in December 2008 and was referred to by the company as "a true mobile computer". It is expected to hit stores later this month.
