New Walkman phone impresses reviewer

The latest entry in the Sony Ericsson line of Walkman mobile phones has been described by one reviewer as a joy to use.

According to Cnet's Irene Mickaiel, there is admittedly very little to set the W508 apart from other audio-focused handsets like the recently launched W995 and W595.

However, when it comes to music playback using the integrated media player, the piece notes the manufacturer has created another model likely to impress many consumers.

In addition to being pleasant to use, Ms Mickaiel adds the phone offers a level of smoothness and clarity which caught her off guard at one point.

"To our embarrassment, we thought the sound was playing through the headphones when the boss told us to keep it down. [Little] did we realise it was playing through the speakers," she explains.

Sony Ericsson's Walkman range takes its name from the personal stereo systems it developed in the late 1970s and early 80s.
