More web options 'means more choice'

Universal access to internet and mobile broadband services is all about giving people more choice, it has been advised.

A spokesman for broadband.co.uk, a website which provides advice and support for those looking to connect or upgrade their web services, said government plans to get more people online had the right idea.

Edd Dawson, managing director at the site, said a significant number of people want internet access and by taking a geographical approach no one should be left behind.

"If someone lives in a remote area and can't get broadband and they want it, they are going to be at a severe disadvantage when it comes to work – there are more and more cases of people working remotely," he added.

A recent study conducted by Ofcom found 30 per cent of UK adults do not have access to the internet and 30 per cent of these people cited cost as a reason for this.

However, a number of mobile broadband packages are available that could be more suited to some budgets.
