MMS messaging 'presents some exciting options'

Multimedia messaging (MMS) devices are being utilised by entrepreneurial businesses to connect with the general public, one expert has commented.

Following a report issued this week by Juniper Research - which revealed annual growth rates in this area could reach 94 per cent in the next five years - a spokesman for the Mobile Data Association (MDA) said "exciting" times were ahead.

Steve Reynolds, chairman of the group, which represents operators, manufacturers and other firms in the sector, explained there were benefits for business and consumers.

One area he touched on was advertising-sponsored tariffs, where the user has no monthly fee in exchange for agreeing to receive MMS marketing.

However, Mr Reynolds added it was important for these strategies to be carefully arranged if both sides were to enjoy them.

"At the moment what's driving the market seems to be a couple of mobile virtual networks set up offering this 'you take so many apps and you get subsidised rates for voice and texts' et cetera," he concluded.

Would you opt-in for such a tariff?
