HD Omnia upgrade 'dazzles' reviewer

SamsungThe Samsung Omnia has received an upgrade and a new review looks at how the phone stacks up against its predecessor.

Flora Graham states in an article for Cnet this week that the South Korean manufacturer has renamed the device the i8910 HD and has incorporated some extras that could tempt buyers.

The most notable of these is the new screen, which uses AMOLED technology to produce "dazzling" results.

Samsung has also equipped the revised Omnia with an eight-megapixel camera with the ability to record video in high-resolution, as well as a user interface described as "good-looking".

An enhanced operating system is used to run the device, but the review does highlight "sluggish" performance when it is running more than one application.

"The best Symbian touchscreen phone out there," Ms Graham concludes. "The Samsung i8910 HD is an entertainment powerhouse."

Consumers looking for the original Omnia will find it is still available on a range of tariffs.

What did you think of the original Omnia - worth upgrading?
