Obama wins fight to keep BlackBerry

The new president of the United States has won the battle to keep his trusty BlackBerry by his side, according to reports.

Barack Obama will be the first commander in chief to have constant access to his email while in the Oval Office, allowing him access to both senior members of staff and friends.

According to White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, the move represents a "compromise" after fears there people could hack in to the president's inbox.

However, the newly-inaugurated leader was reluctant to give up his BlackBerry and as such security has been enhanced to prevent this.

"The president has a BlackBerry through a compromise that allows him to stay in touch with senior staff and a small group of personal friends in a way that use will be limited," Mr Gibbs said.

Barack Obama was sworn in to his new position on Tuesday.

Will the fate of the western world be safe with Obama's BlackBerry switched on?
