Mobile phones 'essential to education'

Mobile phones could be essential to the future of education, according to one expert.

A spokesman for O2, a network that recently announced a new device aimed at assisting with learning programmes, said such technology had an important role to play in this field.

Speaking at the British Education and Training Technology forum in London last week, the carrier's business sales director Ben Dowd commented on recent research that looked at education and technology.

It was revealed 85 per cent of people use some form of technological equipment on a daily basis, with 70 per cent stating mobile phones were key to their working lives.

"These results are encouraging as we see education as a key market for the development of our products and services," Mr Dowd said.

O2 unveiled details of the Xda Flint earlier this month, claiming it was well equipped for education as it offered access to digital learning applications and virtual learning environments, as well as the ability to load e-books and review documents.
