'Surprise' deals extended for O2 PAYG users

O2 has announced the extension of a scheme that rewards its pay-as-you-go (PAYG) mobile phone users.

The network's Top-up Surprises initiative, which offers them a redeemable gift code each time they credit their device, was described as "hugely successful" by the firm - and as such the decision has been made to continue it.

O2 also announced it would launch a £5.5 million marketing campaign to promote the offering and draw attention to it for current and potential PAYG customers.

Alistair Johnston, marketing director for Telefonica O2 UK, said it was essential that customer loyalty was invested in with such schemes - especially in the current economic climate.

"We are now giving our 11.8 million Pay & Go customers a guaranteed gift and the chance to win something big and exciting every time they top up," he added.

The unique codes are redeemed online and prizes can be anything from free text bundles to TVs and laptops.

O2 currently has the Apple iPhone 3G available on PAYG.
