Record year for BlackBerry sales

Research In Motion (RIM) has announced a record year for sales of its BlackBerrymobile phones.
The manufacturer claims that during the final quarter of 2008, it set up around 2.6 million device users with new accounts and shipped its 50 millionth BlackBerry last month.
Since its launch a decade ago, RIM phones have gone from strength to strength, having recently made the transition from business gadget to becoming a more widely used platform - thanks in part to models such as the BlackBerry Storm.
The Storm is the first BlackBerry to come with a touchscreen interface and has been compared by many to the Apple iPhone 3G. Users can also get access to a range of applications that make accessing social networking websites easier.
"Over seven million people have downloaded the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones application," RIM said in a recent statement.
The first fully-functional BlackBerry to be launched on pay-as-you-go was announced last week by Orange.
Which is better? 'Berrys or Apples?
