Report: Leeds top for mobile broadband
Posted: 7 August 2009
The city of Leeds has the highest number of mobile broadband users in England, according to a new report.
Ofcom found that 29 per cent of residents use this method to get on the web.
In Scotland, 22 per cent of consumers in the Highlands and Islands have mobile broadband, perhaps because other types of connections can be unreliable or non-existent in remote locations.
Swansea is the top place in Wales at 18 per cent, while in Northern Ireland only eight per cent of households overall utilise a dongle to go online.
Peter Phillips is Ofcom partner, strategy and developments and asid people would nowadays give up meals out and holidays before a broadband, phone or pay TV package.
"Despite the recession, people are spending more time watching TV, using their mobile phone or accessing the internet," he added.
With this in mind, an article in the Examiner recently investigated ways households can save money during difficult financial periods.
Readers were advised to shop around and make sure they get the best telecoms packages at the lowest price.
Are you happy with your mobile broadband contract?
