A new competition designed to look at the future of mobile phone applications has had its finalists announced.
The 2009 Calling All Innovators contest, which is put together by the Forum Nokia Developer Community (FNDC), listed its selection from over 1,700 submissions this week.
Among them were Tech Buzz, an electronics news aggregator and Dianping - a service which collates prices, menus, addresses, reviews and other information on international restaurants.
With many more entrants announced, FNDC vice-president Purnima Kochikar said those named were reflective of the "astounding" level of quality that had been seen this year.
"Turning the spotlight on our developers in marketing efforts like Calling All Innovators is just one way we can expose the best mobile applications from our developer community to consumers around the world," he explained.
Winners of the competition will be announced on September 1st and will take a piece of an overall cash and prize fund worth more than $250,000 (£151,360).
Nokia recently unveiled a partnership with AIS to enhance its potential push email services.
