New Samsung US phone made '80% recyclable'

Although there is no word yet on whether it will be made available in the UK, a new phone in the US is 80 per cent recyclable.

The Samsung Reclaim is set to go on sale from under $50 and provide consumers with a greener mobile option. The manufacturer is making the device available via Sprint, a North American network.

Feature-wise, the Reclaim is a qwerty model with messaging capabilities. It is said to provide the same network speeds and "must-have" gadgets while leaving a smaller carbon footprint than many other models on the market.

Each part of the phone has been made as green as possible - from the outer casing constructed using bio-plastics derived corn, to the warranty manual printed using soy-based ink.

"Samsung Reclaim is more than just an eco-friendly device," said Omar Khan, senior vice-president of strategy and product management for Samsung Mobile.

"It's also a powerful and stylish phone that's easy-to-use."

Some companies offer to recycle handsets and provide the previous owner with cash in return. This could be suitable for people wanting to get the latest model on the market.

What will your next phone be?
