Expedia: More people checking BlackBerrys on holiday

Checking your BlackBerry while on holiday is rapidly becoming the norm, one expert claims.

A spokesman for Expedia, an online travel portal that also provides news and advice on consumers' holiday trends, said people are increasingly likely to keep in touch with work using their mobile phone.

Jonathan Cudworth, head of product marketing at the site, suggested more people think it is important to check emails and see what is going on a the office or workplace in their absence.

"People feel they need to stay in touch with the office while away and it's becoming the norm to check your Blackberry or mobile phone whilst on holiday," he explained.

Mr Cudworth's comments follow the publication of a report by Expedia that showed 60 per cent of Brits take their full holiday entitlement, despite pressure at work - and 23 per cent phone the office and check emails while on holiday.
