Research In Motion (RIM) said the on-device store will provide personal and business tools for owners of the smartphones, with access available via mobile networks and Wi-Fi.
The BlackBerry App World is to include a Top Downloads area, as well as the Front Page Carousel, which showcases applications and makes browsing simpler.
Categories currently include reference and e-books, news and weather, maps and navigation and games, among many others.
Each can be reviewed to help other users find out more before they buy. They can also be rcommended via email, SMS or BlackBerry Messenger.
Apps will range in price and some will be free.
"We are thrilled today to enhance that experience with a new app store that helps connect consumers with developers and carriers," remarked Mike Lazaridis, president and co-chief executive officer of the company.
RIM was founded in 1984 in Canada.
