AMOLED screen 'sets new Samsung apart from rivals'

SamsungThe screen technology on one of Samsung's latest smartphones has been singled out for praise in a new review.

In a piece for Mobile Burn, Michael Oryl looks at the South Korean manufacturer's SGH-a877 Impression - which is equipped with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that he calls "truly beautiful".

The article goes on to highlight the compact design of the device, as well as its full qwerty keyboard and messaging facilities - but adds it is the AMOLED-powered screen that truly sets it apart from its rivals.

Mr Oryl explains the display "can render blacker blacks and brighter colours than a traditional backlit TFT display. In that way, you can think of AMOLED as the plasma TV of the cell phone world."

This technology has also been applied to the screen of Samsung's recent Tocco Ultra Edition - which is available on T Mobile, O2 and Orange pay monthly tariffs.

Would you trade in your old Tocco for an Ultra Edition model?
