Orange to move into TV?
Posted: 30 September 2008
Orange could be the next mobile phones network to begin offering on-demand TV services.
Iptv-news.com reports that Orange will oversee the launch of the service either by the end of 2008 or early next year, having already had success with its offerings in Jordan.
The network operator already has a partnership with Greek telecoms firm Intracom Telecom that provides the city with content.
The news comes as Virgin Media announces that it has seen the number of people using its on-demand TV services grow significantly.
Virgin Media recorded 45 million on-demand-programming requests during August, which mad.co.uk reports are 11 million more than in January.
Neil Berkett, the chief executive of Virgin Media, said: "We are clearly on the precipice of some fundamental changes in the way people watch TV."
Both Orange and Virgin, in addition to a wide selection of mobile phones, offer internet services with the former also providing mobile broadband.
