A new handset is in development that could rival Samsung's latest flagship model, it has been suggested.
According to the Register Hardware site, images of a new phone from Asus could have the South Korean manufacturer's recently launched Omnia in its sights.
The mobile phone, thought to be named the XDA Zest, not only "looks strikingly similar to Samsungs Omnia", but is "likely" to be equipped with a five-megapixel camera, as well as 3G and HDSPA connectivity.
It is noted that the XDA Zest could be available for O2 customers as the XDA moniker is the network's own "in-house smartphone brand" and that "Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are almost certainly on-board".
According to the Carphonewarehouse, the most recent addition to O2's XDA family is the Orbit, which it states is a slim model that is stylish and functional enough to be "perfect for both work and pleasure".
The handset is equipped with GPS and runs on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 operating system.
