T Mobile G1: the wait is over
Posted: 29 October 2008
The wait for one of the most eagerly-anticipated mobile phones of the year ends tomorrow, the Daily Mail reports this week.
It is noted that with the launch of the T Mobile G1, the world's first handset powered by Google's Android operating system, the Apple iPhone 3G and recent entries into the Blackberry range could have a serious competitor on their hands.
The G1 is praised for offering open source software, which means it can be added to and adapted by developers with downloadable applications available through an online store - Android Market.
According to one industry expert, Ernest Doku, the phone marks a significant time for Google, as it will no doubt be hoping to build on the success of Android in the future.
"The launch of the G1 is important not only because it's Google's first foray into the mobile market, but because it's also the launch of an entirely new mobile phone operating system," he adds.
The T Mobile G1 was launched earlier this year at an event in New York.
