Sony EricssonSony Ericsson could continue their line of popular camera-focussed mobile phones with new zoom technology, Latest-Mobile reports.

The website states that the manufacturer, which has the five-megapixel C902 currently available, will follow this with the eight-megapixel C905 next month and has filed a patent for a new image capture system.

It notes that although the upcoming Sony Ericsson C905 will not be equipped with the new technology, the move to secure this method of using zoom for camera-enabled mobile phones is an indication of its future plans.

"As the patent application reads, all you need to do to move the phone closer to the object in case you want to zoom in and, on the other hand, to zoom out you will need to step back a little," the article adds.

However, the site argues that there are a number of complexities to consider with this new system, which could see it fail to appear on the company's range of handsets any time soon.

On its November release, Sony Ericsson C905 buyers can expect to get auto focus, red-eye reduction, digital zoom and xenon flash built-in to the handset.
