Friends who do not speak the same first language may be able to communicate better with the launch of a new Skype service.

Moka Chat means people who speak English, Spanish and Chinese can communicate easier, the company says.

The mobile language translation technology could target more than two million speakers of these languages worldwide.

It also enables users to send translated SMS text messages using Skype's built-in text messaging service.

Moka stated: "Using Moka Chat, English-speaking Skype users can now easily send translated text messages … enhancing their Skype experience while at the same time improving their language skills."

Diego Winegardner, president and co-founder of Moka, said the application is "the ideal translation solution".

He went on to say Skype is one of the most popular and effective services for global communications.

Skype also supports video communication features and conference calling with up to nice different callers.
