Apple mp3 player: Faster than iPhone?

The iconic iPod mp3 player may have provided the blueprint for the Apple iPhone 3G, but a new article states the original is still better in some respects.

Touch Arcade decided to pit the 2GB Apple iPod Touch up against its multimedia sibling and found the result was the mp3 player had a faster processing speed – making it better for 3D gaming, among other things.

It was revealed by the sight that Apple had "quietly boosted" the latest 2GB Touch mp3 player when it relaunched it in September this year – giving it 532MHz of processing – in comparison to the 412MHz of the iPhone.

According to Trusted Reviews, this means the Touch is faster than the new iPhone "by a considerable margin" and is also the lightest of the Apple handsets to use the mobile OS X software.

Those looking for more than an mp3 player with the ability to download games, however, may be tempted by the Apple iPhone 3G's web capabilities as well as its digital camera and phone features.
