A recent announcement from Vodafone on its mobile broadband services could have a significant effect on the sector, it has been suggested.
According to Broadband Expert, the network has effectively "thrown down the gauntlet" to other mobile broadband providers to offer better services as improved prices with its recent expansion plans.
It is noted that Vodafone's recent announcement that it would boost its 7.2mbps, 3G high speed mobile broadband services to cover a number of UK cities could force providers such as 3, O2, Orange and T Mobile to revise their offerings.
"Over recent months competition amongst mobile broadband providers has become increasingly tough, with the popularity of mobile broadband quickly gaining momentum," the article notes.
Vodafone announced earlier in the month that its services would now expand to cover a host of UK cities including Manchester, Reading, Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Bristol.
The network also announced this week it would be purchasing ZYB, a European social networking and online management firm, for around 31.5 million (£25 million).
