There could be at least another 40 biodegradable mobile phones on the market by the end of the year as Nokia announces its latest eco-friendly plans.
Techshout.com reports that the Finnish manufacturer has unveiled plans to boost its green credentials by offering a range of handsets that are kinder to the environment.
The site states that in a recent interview with the Business Standard newspaper, Nokia's Indian vice president and managing director, D Shivakumar, said the future of the firm's mobile phones would focus on eco-friendly parts.
"We will be using biodegradable phone covers [and] recyclable battery designs that use less harmful toxic materials and energy efficient accessories for all our forthcoming phones," he said.
He added that Nokia had already "eliminated" the use of polyvinyl chloride in its phones.
This is not the first time Nokia has attempted to produce a more environmentally friendly mobile phone, the Nokia 3110 Evolve is also made up of 50 per cent bio-materials.
