Java-based games on mobile phones are about to become easier for developers to add functions to, Nokia says.

The company has launched a new software development kit (SDK), Snap Mobile 2.0, which will make games "more intuitive", according to IDG News.

A review by Pocket Gamer suggested it would make the games easier to develop, which means customers will get better games and more choice.

At the heart of the SDK is a new object-oriented application programming interface, matched to faster emulation and testing tools, according to Nokia.

Randolf Wu from PocketNet, said: "The Snap Mobile SDK 2.0 makes it easier for developers to write and debug a connected mobile Java game and brings fun to development."

He added that he had been able to use the program minutes after downloading it and it was "invaluable" because it offered a realistic game play environment for mobile homes.
The SDK is freely available via a download from Nokia.

In other Nokia news, five finalists for the 2008 Nokia Mobile Filmmaking Awards will be flown to the finals in the company's two-minute film competition.
