Mobile technology advances 'are great for gambling'

Users of mobile phones will increasingly take to gaming and gambling, one expert has suggested.
A spokesman for the remote gambling association (RGA), said this week that mobile phones represented "the next big area" for the sector to move into as more and more people discover online gaming using their handsets.
Brian Wright, business director at the RGA, said although it was currently difficult to determine how the market would grow, improvements in technology on mobile phones had improved the possibilities.
"At the moment you can do amazing things on phones. The internet and the phone are becoming mutual products where you can almost have the same display on your mobile phone as you do on your PC," he said.
He added that it was looking more likely that the mobile and standard web would merge and that this was a promising sign.
A recent report from the Gambling Commission found that 8.8 per cent of people in the UK had taken part in some form of remote gambling in the 12 months prior to March 2008.
