Teenage girls 'love their mobile phones'

A US study has revealed that mobile phones are proving hugely popular with the female teenage market.
The survey, put together by MultiMedia Intelligence, revealed that 91 per cent of 17-year-old girls in the US have mobile phones, in comparison to 78 per cent of boys the same age.
Frank Dickson, chief research officer at the organisation, said the figures showed the importance of the demographic to both networks and manufacturers, adding that it was clear these companies were doing all they can to attract young consumers.
"Targeting teens at the right age and gender is critical to maximise subscriber gains. Targeting teens at the wrong age at a particular gender will cause operators to miss the boat," he added.
One trend which could be seen as indicative of manufacturers desire to reach the teenage girl demographic is the growing number of mobile phones available in pink.
The Sony Ericsson W580i, Samsung's Ted Baker Button, the BlackBerry 8110 Pearl and Motorola's PEBL U6 and W220 are all handsets currently available in pink at the Carphonewarehouse.
