A new software application for mobile phones has been developed that can advise users on the busiest nightlife in your city, according to one website.
Roland Piquepaille's Technology Trends states that a computer science professor from Columbia University in the US has put together a system which gathers data to map out the most populated nearby areas.
By gathering data from mobile phones and GPS-enabled taxis, among other sources the Citysense program is able to display maps that show where the largest numbers of people are gathering.
The man behind the software, Tony Jebara, states that the idea is for consumers to be able to locate city attractions such as popular restaurants, bars and shopping centres.
"The application will compare your history and preferences with those of other users and show you where you're most likely to find people with similar tastes at that moment," he added.
Citysense's website describes the system as an open, urban-scale sensor network test-bed.
