Mobile broadband speeds could be about to get faster following pressure from the UK telecommunications regulator.
The Telegraph reports that Ofcom has advised a number of fixed-line internet providers that connection speeds should be improved and adds this could also affect mobile broadband users.
Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards told the newspaper that mobile broadband services had seen significant growth and as such, operators should be forced to make the best possible network speeds available.
"Ofcom favours a regulatory environment for the next generation of networks and access that both allows and encourages operators to make risky investments [and] to innovate for the benefit of consumers," he said.
BT chief executive Ian Livingston welcomed the comments, praising Ofcom's commitment to allowing next-generation broadband services to thrive.
Broadband Expert reported earlier this week that T Mobile was making improvements to its services that would see consumers offered speeds of up to 7.2Mbps.
