Apple's new App Store has seen over ten million downloads by iPhone and iPod users since its launch last week.
The site, which offers a range of products and services to those with Apple mobile phones and mp3 players, was praised by the company's chief executive Steve Jobs, who called its success a "grand slam".
"Developers have created some extraordinary applications and the App Store can wirelessly deliver them to every iPhone and iPod touch user instantly," he said.
Games, social networking and enterprise productivity tools are among the items featured on the store and are among 800 native applications available on the App Store - 200 of which are available for free.
The App Store itself claims to offer "something for everyone" and counts chat, travel, news, sports, finance and business among its featured applications, adding that all such items are made with the touchscreen iPhone and iPod specifically in mind.
