Apple has announced this week that it has sold over one million new iPhone 3G handsets over a three-day period.
The iPhone 3G was launched last Friday July 11th and has seen "a stunning opening weekend", according to Apple's chief executive Steve Jobs.
"It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world," he said.
Apple's iPhone is currently available in 21 countries across four continents and will be launched in France this Friday.
The new model has the same features as the original iPhone plus faster 3G networking and software that includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and can run more than 800 third-party applications. It also has built-in GPS.
Apple also released figures on the first weekend of its App Store, which attracted over ten million downloads in its first weekend. Mobile applications such as location-based social networking and medical applications are available from the store.
