With an increasing number of people discovering the benefits of mobile broadband services, a new survey has looked at internet access in the UK.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), consumers in the south east were more likely to have access to the web - either via mobile broadband or a landline connection - with 74 per cent of that region now online.
The least connected region was the North East, which was revealed as having 54 per cent of its population hooked up to the web. Overall, it was revealed that almost two thirds of UK households (16.5 million) had an internet connection.
"The proportion of adults who were recent Internet users who accessed the internet every day or almost every day was 69 per cent - this represented 23.5 million adults in the UK," the report added.
It was also noted that men were twice as likely to access the web using mobile phones and that overall the male population was more interested in online communications and audiovisual content.
ONS figures released in November last year revealed that 88.4 per cent of UK web users were accessing the internet via some form of broadband connection.
