Mobile broadband users 'looking for online video'

More and more consumers are enjoying the benefits of online video websites, according to one expert.

A spokesman for the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), said this week that traditional internet users and those with mobile broadband were turning to a number of different services to access web-based video content.

Jack Wallington, programmes manager at the IAB, said that the growth of YouTube, as well as BBC's iPlayer and Channel 4's 4oD service, was contributing towards recent figures that suggest online video have seen traffic grow by 178 per cent in twelve months.

"The video players themselves have become easier to access and use, while broadband has made the videos bigger and of higher quality … [People] know how to use online video players and have an excellent experience," he said.

According to recent figures from Hitwise, published last month, the most popular 25 video orientated websites accounted for around 2.2 per cent of all UK web traffic between in the February 2007 and the same month this year.

This month, new figures from the GSM Association revealed take up of mobile broadband had seen a significant rise due to the number of options available - such as Web 'n' Walk from T Mobile and the most recent 3GB offering from Vodafone.
