A new survey has revealed around half of all internet connections will use mobile broadband by 2012.
According to the research, conducted by Arthur D Little and Exane, an estimated 50 per cent of European internet users will be benefiting from the freedom of mobile broadband.
It was found that lower prices and better availability were the reason behind the growth and the industry could see mobile broadband have a dramatic effect on the overall number of people choosing to get online, TotalTele reports.
Commenting on the research, head of telecoms at Exane, Antoine Pradayrol, said: "Lower prices, the rollout of HSDPA networks and also the uptake of HSDPA devices means that mobile broadband traffic growth is set to explode."
He added that providers would need to address this growth in interest in such services and that new technologies were needed to handle the level of increasing demand.
3 Mobile, T Mobile, Orange and Vodafone are among the providers currently offering mobile broadband.
