Reports have suggested that Foxxconn Electronics (FE), the company which handles the manufacture of Apple's iPhone, is looking to ship the 3G model in June this year.
Rumours have been rife on the internet with regards Apple's second-generation handset and speculation has pointed to a summer release, however, Commercial Times now reports that orders have been placed with the company for the assembly of the 3G model.
The Chinese-language site claims that sources at foreign institutional investors in Taipei have confirmed that FE, of Hon Hai Precision Industry, have now received instruction by Apple that would see material supplies at the end of next month, DigiTimes reports.
"Reports of a 3G version iPhone are all unconfirmed at present, although industry watchers are fairly confident an announcement will be made at or around Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference 2008 in June," DigiTimes added.
Techtree.com reported last week that future incarnations of the iPhone could double as a remote control for Apple's iTunes software.
