Mobile broadband users have been advised that shopping online is safe, but added that people should stick to approved sites.
According to a spokesman for Shopsafe.co.uk, a website which offers consumer advice for online shoppers - including those using mobile broadband, people have no real reason to be wary about buying products over the internet.
Simon Crisp, director of the site, said that the reality of the situation was that there were a number of security measures that were now in place that had made buying online as safe as using a credit card in a store.
"The banks are promoting schemes now, which is rather like chip and pin but the online version is SecureCode," he said.
He said that Shopsafe.co.uk recommended using these services where possible and added that for consumers who were unsure, using websites with "a badge of approval" was another way to err on the side of caution.
Recent figures from IMRG Capgemini's e-retail index showed online sales for February 2007 had grown by 46 per cent year-on-year.
